Sansho is a berry, or more precisely a "false pepper" of Japanese origin. It has a fresh citrus and lemongrass aroma, but especially that menthol freshness on the tongue that reminds one of Sichuan pepper. Japanese chefs often use it to "revitalize" their dishes.
